I run a community upliftment project could Greatheart Gifts. I am passionate about social responsibility and feel that this project is my way of making a small difference. The expression "pay it forward" is used to describe the concept of asking that a good turn be repaid by having it done to others instead. Greatheart aims to make a difference in the lives of individuals who need it most.

About Greatheart
Greatheart brings you a selection of beautiful products including the Greatheart Felt Range and now the Greatheart Furniture Range. Greatheart is a women empowerment skills development project, bringing together a group of ladies in the townships to make hand-beaded and embroidered products. Through training and development, made possible through the sales of their handmade products, the women who were previously reliant on an irregular government grant and were unemployed are able to put food on the table and restore dignity to their lives. Greatheart have worked hand in hand with The African Children’s Feeding Scheme for the last nine years and we now aim to empower the ultimate caretakers of the children at the shelter in Alexandra Township. We continue to seek ways to enhance a better life for all in this community. To see our range go to www.greatheart.co.za

I am also a shopping assistant for Famous Fox Personal Shopping. Famous Fox helps tourists and locals with tailor-made shopping packages to suit their individual needs. Having studied Fine Art and having a passion for style, working as a shopping assistant gives me the opportunity to express my creative side.

Have you been nominated or received any awards?
Nominated for Roodepoort Chamber of Commerce and Industry Business of the Year Awards.

About you as an individual
My family mean the world to me. I am very close to my mom, who is a huge inspiration to me, so I am also very lucky that not only is she my mom, my confidant and my inspiration, but she is also my business partner so I get to spend time with her everyday.

I often spend time with the children in Alexander Township, where I assist the African Children’s Feeding Scheme with caring for children in need.

I enjoy exercising, mountain biking, horse riding, am addicted to reading and love spending time outdoors. The bushveId is my happy place and it is my first choice when I need to destress.  Socially I am extroverted and I love to be around people. My friends describe me as loyal and dependable and often approach me for advice. I am highly motivated and determined to succeed.  I am passionate about social responsibility and feel that it is important for each of us to ‘give back’ in some way.  I believe that we get as much out of life as we put in and have a positive and dedicated approach to life.

Your inspiration
I am inspired by the women around me, especially the women that I work with in the township who haven’t got much, yet complain so little; I’m inspired by Africa and the smell of fresh rain on the African dirt; And I am encouraged by those who believe in me and despite everything have never given up on me.

What is your personal message to the women of South Africa?
To try everything at least once; to be brave enough to take a leap of faith even in the face of adversity and fear. So often we let fear hold us back. So often we deny ourselves the things we love the most out of fear that it may not work. For example in my business, I could have stayed in a corporate environment with a stable salary, but instead I took a leap of faith and I get to do something I love everyday.

Do you support any particular charity or non-profit organisation?
Community service is my life. I believe that we cannot complain about the state of our nation, unless we are prepared to do something to change it. It is because of my strong belief in community service that I started Greatheart and I challenge all individuals to become involved in community service or in a charity in some way. It is through helping those that are less fortunate than yourselves that you get a true sense of fulfilment. Through “giving back” one sees that things that seem to be huge issues in your life are no longer as significant when compared to the hardship that many others experience on a daily basis.

What is the best piece of advice you have received?
The best piece of advice that I have received is that “time takes time”. We live in a fast paced world where everything is all about go, go, go. What we tend to forget is that Time is a process and thus takes time. I have found this advice especially useful when dealing with heartache and it has helped me to remember that I need to be patient with myself as some things in life cannot be fixed instantaneously.
