Barbara Mowat

Barbara Mowat has over thirty years of professional experience as a business owner and management and training consultant. Ms. Mowat is President and owner of Impact Communications Limited, a multi-faceted consulting company working in the areas of management training and consulting; creation of training and business resources; and, international product, business and market development for the global marketplace, including creating and producing trade shows, conferences, forums, and trade missions.

Ms. Mowat was the founder and publisher of Home Business Report, the first Canadian national newsstand magazine for micro-enterprises. She is founder and owner of UniquelyCanada.com, an e-commerce gift store for SME enterprises and creator of the Uniquely Programs, which assists entrepreneurs in accessing the global marketplace, with a special emphasis on women. Ms. Mowat's work has assisted entrepreneurs throughout Canada, South-East Asia, the US, South America, Europe, Afghanistan, and Africa.

Ms. Mowat has devoted time to sit on a number of boards and committees concerned with issues related to small business development. These have included: UBC Entrepreneurship & Venture Capital Research Centre; Board of Director for the Canadian Council for Small Business; Chair of the Small Business Advisory Committee for the Royal Bank of Canada; Member of the Small Business Working Committee for the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Industry; Member of the Treasury Board of Canada's Joint Forum on Small Business Issues; Vice-Chair of the Canada BC Business Services Society; and Vice-President of Memberships for International Women's Forum Canada. She is currently on the Advisory Board of KCTS Public Broadcasting TV station in Seattle, Washington, as well as facilitator for the Vancouver Chapter of the Women President's Organization (WPO).

Ms. Mowat was awarded the 1993 Canadian Women Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Impact on the Local Economy and nominated for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneurship Awards in 1994.
