Fancy a bit of Hanky Panky?
Fancy a bit of Hanky Panky?

I know that Valentine’s Day creates controversy and mixed feelings every year: there are some who say it’s a commercial rip-off (according to Hallmark, 188 million cards are sold each year) and that it’s ridiculous that everyone rushes out to buy Godiva chocs and red roses for their loved ones...and there are others, presumably the romantics, who revel in the opportunity to celebrate love in all its forms after the anti-climax and drudgery that January brings following the festive season. Seeing as I fall in the latter category and with a view to making a head start on my beloved’s Valentine’s gift, I decided to hop down to Parkview village to my favourite destination shop, Croft & Co. (purveyors of all things luxurious). The shop specialises in exclusive and quality goods sourced from all over the world, such as Truefitt & Hill shaving products, beautiful Jack Spade leather wallets, sublime fragrances by Lorenzo Villoresi and fabulous equestrian and leather goods by London’s celebrated Swaine Adeney Brigg, to mention but a few.
It was whilst browsing through the Billykirk bags and getting delightfully confused concerning choice amidst the array of merchandise displayed, that I came across a tray full of intriguingly rolled up bits of lace packaged exquisitely in a wrap of ribbon with the name “Hanky Panky” on the top. The proprietor, Grant Ravenscroft, was effusive in his enthusiasm of their popularity in New York as well as having made their mark with every celebrity from Cameron Diaz to Jennifer Aniston; so I thought I’d shelve the Valentine’s gift for the moment and I bought myself some Hanky Pankies...after all, finding the perfect thong is practically the same as to finding the perfect pair of jeans! Dubbed the “World’s Most Comfortable Thong” I really had no choice but to try them on and see for myself. Of course, I was a bit sceptical about the one size fits all label, but they slipped on like a dream and I loved the flattering V waistband and there was not a panty line in sight! Ten out of ten for softness and fit. And it was then that I had the Eureka moment: what a wonderful Valentine’s gift for my dearly beloved, a visual feast along with a declaration of my everlasting love...in assorted colours.
So I’m off to Croft & Co. again to stock up on my celebrity lingerie along with a gorgeous handcrafted leather wallet, although I’m certain that presented with the choice, My Valentine will prefer some Hanky Panky...
