Pongracz only SA Brut to win medal at international sparkling wine competition
Pongrácz, the much loved Méthode Cap Classique which celebrates its 21st anniversary this year, is the only South African Brut to win a medal as one of the best sparkling wines in the world at the 2011 Effervescents du Monde held in Dijon, France.
One of just two South African Cap Classiques to win a medal in this prestigious international competition of the world’s best sparkling wines including Champagne, Pongrácz brought home a Silver medal. The competition which was held for the 9th time this year, attracted 552 entrants from 24 countries. The wines were judged by a panel of 100 sparkling wine experts over three days. In total 38 Gold and 147 Silver medals were awarded.
2011 has been a bumper year for Pongrácz after winning the title as South Africa’s Best Brut Non-vintage for the second consecutive year at the 2011 Amorim Cork Cap Classique Challenge, and bagging a Veritas Gold medal.
Inspired by a Hungarian nobleman whose life’s work revitalised viticulture in the Cape, Pongrácz is a timeless Cap Classique composed of Pinot noir and Chardonnay. It has great complexity and delicate yeasty tones, layered with toast and ripe fruit imparting a wonderful foamy mouthful of black fruit flavours with a long, lingering finish.
Pongrácz sells at approximately R90 per bottle in leading outlets.
