Yes, yes, yes. Me, me, me!
Yes, yes, yes. Me, me, me!
“If you don’t love yourself, how in the hell are you going to love somebody else?” is a catchphrase of my beloved hero/ine, RuPaul. With February being le Month of Love, I am asking you this question: do you love others enough to put yourself first?
Does that sound strange to you? Then let me explain myself: you know how in the airplane they always say that in case of emergency you should put the oxygen mask over your own face before helping others? Before, even, helping children? I mean, how selfish is that; taking oxygen for yourself before your own child? Scandalous!
But it does make some sense, does it not?
Think of it this way - if you’re feeling shaky, wouldn’t it be nice if you could lean on me? If you did, you’d need me to be strong & steady or else we would both topple. So it makes sense that, in order for me to be strong for others I must, I absolutely must, spend time strengthening & energising myself. And that means I need to utilise some precious time, energy & possibly even money on my own healing & self-development. If I do, I can be of tremendous value & service; I can fulfil my role in helping others, & that is why I say to all of us, we look after ourselves because out of love for others.
How selfless is that?
And taking care of self does not have to take much time if you remember to savour the odd moment throughout the day. Steal it if you must:
- stand up & stretch now & then
- take a minute to do some affirmations while showering
- wear your ipod while doing housework
- do some kegels in the queue
I will post a simple 3-step plan soon, but for now just remember that in order to take passengers on board you have to refuel sometimes… you have to take some oxygen for you-you-you!
“Can I get an amen up in here?”
Because I love you
