I was born in Pietermaritzburg and am the son of Gary and Dilys Hewitt. I did my schooling at Maritzburg College before deciding to go into printing.

Funnily enough before I became a chef I was an apprentice in a printing company of which I lasted 2 months before I realised that this was not what I wanted to do.

I started out at the Elsa Vander Nest Cullinary Academy under Elsa and Rebecca who I have the most respect for as they guided me in the right direction. Then I did my training under Mike Basset at the Villa Via hotel in Cape Town and then ran his (my executive chefs) restaurant Yum Deli in Vredekloof Cape Town. From there I went over to the UK and worked various institutes gaining as much knowledge as possible.
