Article Body:

For some reason people, who come and see me as a life coach, are often astounded when I talk of the adversity in my own life. “But I thought that things would go perfectly for you” they often remark. “Haven’t you learnt the secret of success? What about the teachings of The Secret” they continue.

Sheesh such expectations! Well let me emphatically state that “no”, I don’t necessarily agree with the teachings of “The Secret” and nor do I agree with perfection as a concept. Here’s a little secret of my own; success is not about constantly achieving perfection, it’s about still finding peace and joy when life is not going according to plan”

And this brings me to my point today. Success is a man-made construct. Irrespective of what religion you prescribe to, I don’t think that God (in whatever shape of form) has ideas of success. Let’s face it; this was our idea. Along our journey through life we decided that in order to be happy we need a great career, a fulfilling relationship, wealth, health, prosperity...and so the list varies according to person to person.

Whilst I’m not at all suggesting that having any of these measures of success is wrong.  I’m all for having goals in one’s life but (and I know everyone can attest to this) sometimes things don’t go according to plan and sometimes things just don’t work out. I’m merely suggesting that one can remain ‘intact’ through periods of adversity. Further to that one can actually attain a sense of peace within the chaos that abounds.
